90 Day Hair Growth Challenge Tips

Are you ready to unlock the secret to thicker and longer hair?

How Do I Start My Healthy Hair Journey?

Firstly, regular washing and conditioning is key. It's recommended to wash your hair every 7-10 days, depending on your hair type. When washing, use a gentle shampoo that's free of harsh chemicals like sulfates and parabens, and follow up with a conditioner that's suitable for your hair type. This will help keep your hair clean, hydrated, and healthy.

Co-washing is also an option if your hair is prone to dryness. Co-washing is a method of washing your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. This practice is particularly useful for people with curly or kinky hair, which tends to be drier and more prone to frizz than other hair types.

Use hair masks and treatments once a week to give your hair an extra boost of hydration and nourishment. You can also use a steam treatment or aka hydration treatment. Trim your ends as well to eliminate dead ends. If you leave them they will continue to split up the hair shaft and cause your hair to appear thin on the ends .

Another important aspect of hair care is avoiding excessive heat styling. Blow drying, flat ironing, and curling can all cause damage to your hair if done too often or at high temperatures. If you must use heat styling tools, use a heat protectant spray first and keep the temperature low to minimize heat damage.

In addition to hair care routines, diet plays a crucial role in promoting healthy hair. Foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals, particularly biotin, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids, can help strengthen your hair and promote healthy growth. Some of the best foods for healthy hair include salmon, eggs, spinach, nuts, and avocados.

Tips to Maintain Healthy Hair

1. Determine your hair type: Knowing your hair type will help you choose the right products and treatments for your hair.

There are several different hair types, and each type requires specific care to stay healthy. Here are the most common hair types:

Straight hair: This hair type is smooth and sleek, with no curl or wave. Straight hair can be oily or dry, depending on your scalp type. (Type 1)

Wavy hair: Wavy hair has a slight curl or wave to it. This hair type can be prone to frizz and needs extra moisture to stay healthy. (Type 2)

Curly hair: Curly hair is typically thick and has a defined curl pattern. This hair type is prone to dryness and needs extra moisture to stay hydrated. (Type 3)

Coily /Kinky hair: Coily hair is tightly curled and can be prone to breakage. This hair type needs extra care to prevent damage and stay healthy. ( Type 4)

Understanding your hair type is essential to choosing the right products and treatments for your hair. With the right care, you can keep your hair healthy, strong, and beautiful, no matter what type of hair you have.

Lets Talk Hair Porosity

Hair porosity refers to the ability of your hair to absorb and retain moisture. It's determined by the condition of the outermost layer of your hair, known as the cuticle, which can be either tightly packed (low porosity), loosely packed (high porosity), or somewhere in between. Understanding your hair's porosity is important for choosing the right products and techniques to effectively moisturize and maintain your hair.

Low porosity hair has a tightly packed cuticle layer, which makes it difficult for moisture to penetrate the hair shaft. As a result, products tend to sit on the surface of the hair rather than being absorbed. This type of hair often feels resistant to water and may take longer to get wet during washing. It can also be prone to product buildup since it doesn't easily absorb products. To effectively moisturize low porosity hair, lightweight products and techniques that help to open up the cuticle, such as using heat during deep conditioning.

High porosity hair has a cuticle layer that is more open or damaged, allowing moisture to easily enter the hair shaft but also escape just as quickly. This type of hair can absorb products quickly, but it may struggle to retain moisture, leading to dryness, frizz, and breakage. High porosity hair often feels rough or coarse to the touch and may appear dull. To care for high porosity hair, it's important to focus on sealing the cuticle to prevent moisture loss. This can be achieved by using moisturizing products with ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil, incorporating protein treatments to strengthen the hair shaft, and using leave-in conditioners or sealants to lock in moisture.
